INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY
ABOUT ME |
I am a white settler of Scottish, Irish, French and Algonquin ancestry. My Algonquin ancestry is far back in my lineage and forms a small part of who I am. I am an active participant in work around identity and decolonization and keep myself well informed on what's happening with the indigenous community, currently and historically.
It's my honour to be in relationship with indigenous community members in both my personal and professional life and this experience is what informs my therapeutic work. I use Western approaches (such as attachment theory, somatic experiencing) as a way to support people's healing path and I offer encouragement in reconnecting to traditional healing that is outside of my scope. This could mean helping folks connect with elders or ceremony, or referrals to indigenous therapists. |
WHAT DO PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IN SESSION? |
-emotional regulation (how to manage anxiety, anger, sadness, etc)
-trauma recovery (how to manage the impact of abuse, sudden deaths, etc.) -relationships (how to communicate more effectively, how to connect, how to manage conflict) -intergenerational trauma (how does the history of colonization, including residential schools, the 60's scoop, impact your family history and life?) -identity exploration, particularly for people of mixed ancestry that are unsure about belonging -exploration of how to reclaim culture, how to reconnect to healthy parts of community |
