Welcome!
My name is Kerry (she/her) and I am a therapist offering counselling services in the Ottawa area. I hold a Master of Counselling & Spirituality from Saint Paul University in Ottawa and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
I've been in the counselling field for over 10 years now, initially doing crisis intervention work in a Vancouver area homeless shelter. I loved the work and it encouraged me to pursue a Master of Counselling. During my MA, I received training in treating anxiety, depression, self esteem, addictions and a variety of other issues people commonly struggle with. I have since completed more in depth training in supporting indigenous communities as well as women transitioning to parenthood.
My therapeutic presence is genuine and informal. Sessions will often feel relaxed and open. I see counselling as a true collaborative effort. We are working at it together. Your role is to bring in your concerns, experiences, wishes, strengths, struggles, losses - and my role is to offer my training and an 'outsider's perspective' to help you shift your life to one of more balance, fulfillment and happiness. I use evidence based approaches from psychodynamic and CBT psychotherapies but may implement a wider variety of techniques and interventions in our work together. These may include things like worksheets, journaling, book or podcast recommendations, art therapy exercises or more. We will decide together which approaches may be useful for you.
My areas of practice include, but are not limited, to:
*Anxiety
*Depression
*Parenting
*Self esteem/Body image
*Relationship and family issues
*Supporting indigenous communities in trauma recovery and cultural reclamation
