MY APPROACH |
I am a settler of Scottish, Irish, French and Algonquin ancestry. I am an active participant in work around identity and decolonization and keep myself well informed on what's happening with the indigenous community, currently and historically. I have lifelong relationships with folks in the indigenous community, in both my professional and personal life.
I use Western approaches (Somatic Experiencing, CBT and attachment theory) and pursue ongoing training in decolonization and indigenous ways of knowing to provide a holistic healing approach. As a non indigenous therapist, I offer encouragement in reconnecting to traditional healing that is outside of my scope. This could mean helping folks connect with elders or ceremony, or referrals to indigenous therapists. |
